We will learn about Synthesis and Synthesizers for beginners.
Yes. It will cover introduction to sampling and hardware samplers
1. Sampling-Based Sound Design (45 mins)
Objective: Understand how to create new sounds using samples.
What is sampling?
→ Concept of reusing recorded sounds as creative building blocks.
Types of samples: Drums, melodic loops, found sounds, vocals.
Tools for sampling (DAWs, samplers, and grooveboxes).
Hands-on:
→ Import a sample into a sampler.
→ Chop and rearrange a vocal/drum loop.
→ Apply basic effects (EQ, reverb, delay).
Creative exercise: Make a short loop from any random sound.
2. Introduction to Synthesis (45 mins)
Objective: Learn the basics of how sounds are generated electronically.
What is synthesis?
→ Difference between subtractive, additive, FM, and wavetable synthesis.
Key building blocks:
→ Oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs.
Understanding waveforms (sine, square, saw, triangle).
Live demo:
→ Create a bass or pad sound from scratch using a basic synth (like Serum, Vital, or Analog Lab).
Exercise: Modify parameters to see how sound changes.
3. SP-404 Demonstration (30–40 mins)
Objective: Introduce students to performance-based sampling and effects.
Overview of Roland SP-404 (MKII or classic).
Basic workflow: loading samples, pads, banks, and patterns.
Effects demonstration: Vinyl sim, reverb, delay, lo-fi compression.
Live demo: Create a short beat using samples.
Jam session: Encourage students to trigger sounds and experiment.
